France Beats Egypt to Reach Olympic Men's Football Final
Mateta Scores Brace to Lead French Victory
France will face Spain in the gold medal match on 7 August
Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice in the second half as France came from behind to beat Egypt 3-1 and reach the Olympic men's football final on 7 August.
Ahmed Yasser Rayyan had given Egypt a shock lead in the 11th minute, but Mateta leveled in the 68th minute and scored again in the 99th minute to secure the victory.
Michael Olise added a third goal for France in the 109th minute to seal the win.
France will now face Spain in the gold medal match, while Egypt will play Mexico in the bronze medal match.
The match was played in front of a crowd of 11,819 at the Tokyo Stadium.
France started the match brightly and had the first chance in the fourth minute when Antoine Griezmann's shot was saved by Mohamed Abou Gabal.
Egypt took the lead against the run of play in the 11th minute when Rayyan scored with a low shot from inside the area.
France continued to press for an equalizer and had several chances before Mateta finally scored in the 68th minute.
The goal gave France a much-needed boost and they went on to control the rest of the match.
Mateta scored his second goal in the 99th minute to seal the victory.
Olise added a third goal for France in the 109th minute to make sure of the win.
France will now face Spain in the gold medal match on 7 August.
