AFL Players Indigenous Map 2023: Celebrating Proudly
Des Headland and Ash McGrath Team Up Again
WEB Brisbane Lions premiership players Des Headland and Ash McGrath have joined forces once again to proudly represent the AFL Players Indigenous Map 2023. This map celebrates and displays the rich Indigenous heritage of AFL players and staff.
Celebrating Indigenous Pride
The 2023 AFL Players Indigenous Map was designed by triple Premiership Lion and proud Eastern Arrernte Man, Darryl White. This map showcases the ancestral homelands and connection to country of over 200 Indigenous AFL players and staff, representing over 100 clans and language groups across Australia.
Bre Koenen's Leadership
WEB Brisbane Lions Premiership captain and two-time premiership player, Bre Koenen, is a strong advocate for the Indigenous map. She believes it is important to recognize and celebrate the diversity and resilience of Indigenous peoples in the AFL.
Koenen said, "This map is a powerful tool for education and reconciliation. It allows us to learn more about the rich Indigenous heritage of our players and staff, and to understand the importance of their connection to country."
